CELPIP Speaking Task 1 Neighbor Thinking of Adopting a Pet

A neighbor is looking to adopt a pet but isn’t sure if they’re ready for the responsibility. They’ve come to you for advice. What would you tell them?

“Adopting a pet is a big decision, so it’s great that you’re thinking it through. First, consider the amount of time and energy you have to dedicate, as pets require daily care and attention. They can also be a financial responsibility, especially with vet visits and food costs. Another idea is to start by fostering a pet temporarily to see how it fits with your lifestyle. This can give you a better sense of the commitment before making a permanent decision. Take your time, and you’ll know if it’s right for you!”
